What’s Involved in Creating Good Local SEO?


When you’re working on your social media marketing you also want to focus on local business listings too to boost your local SEO. These go beyond your usual Yellow Pages, and can provide a wide range of information to build up your reputation for potential local customers and consumers. In fact, focusing on good local SEO may be more important than worrying about your website rankings on Google, particularly if your local business makes more of its profits from local traffic. And if you have no online store, it makes even more sense.

First, you can have what is called “a citation” in a business directory, for example, Local City Finder. A search of this directory will bring up your business name, address, telephone number, website URL, and other information you’d like to share with your customers.


Obviously, your business name is going to be the single most important factor in your business directory listing. When your business is listed on one of these sites, it also translates over into good local SEO on Google, as this directory’s results are linked to Google searches too. In other words, even if you had no website that Google can find, Google will still find your listing in a local directory listing, such as Local City Finder.


According to Google, businesses get ranked higher when the title reflects your real business name. You can also include a short description that helps customers understand what your business is about. This should not include tag lines, URLs, phone numbers, or other codes.


 Important Business Information

When listing your address on the web, it should be consistent and it should be correct, if you have moved. Spell out Street and Avenue. Proper formatting of telephone numbers is: 123-456-7890, not (123) 456-7890. The days are long gone when an area code was optional.


The same goes for phone number accuracy. Don’t have different phone numbers in different spots, as Google can downgrade your site.




When you’re setting up local business listings in a local business directory you’ll need to choose the right category. Many local SEO directories will let you choose 2 to 10 categories that best describe your business. The categories work a bit like keywords.


This will then enable a search engine to bring up results that are related to the keywords that potential customers can be searching for.


You may need to do a bit of research to figure out how to do good SEO. What search terms will your customers be looking for? You can also check out Google stats to find related search terms to the directory categories that you have chosen.


Don’t limit yourself to broad category names either. Select all that are pertinent to your business.
